Summer is here, and it is HOT! With this kind of weather, you can’t have too many tank tops in your closet. I’m going to show you an easy way to upcyle a LuLaRoe top into a LuLaRoe tank top. This simple project will have you summer ready in no time.
Any LuLaRoe top will work, but for this simple project, I decided on an oversized Perfect T. I thought the swing style body of the Perfect T with cut off sleeves would make a cute coverup for the beach or pool.
First, turn the shirt inside out and cut as close to the stitching as possible without cutting it. Cut in a single layer around the circumference of the sleeve. If you try to cut the front and back of the sleeve at the same time, you risk cutting the stitching.
Next, turn the shirt right side out, and you’ll see the serged edge. Trim off any pieces of fabric that aren’t close to the seam. If you don’t mind an unfinished edge, you can stop here. The edge of the sleeve won’t fray since the seam is serged. Depending on what kind of look you’re going for, I think it’s cute like this.
Lastly, if you opt for a more finished look, grab a bottle of fabric glue (I used Aleene’s Thick Designer Tacky Glue) and turn the shirt inside out. Simply place the glue on the underneath of the serged edge, fold over onto the shirt, and press down. Easy peasy! Once you’ve glued the edges of both arm holes, turn right side out, and you’re set! Of course, you can certainly pull out your sewing machine and really give the arm holes a finished edge, but I’m too lazy for that!
That’s it! It’s such a quick an easy way to update your wardrobe for summer without spending a dime! What do you think? I really love how this Perfect T turned out. It’s just “perfect” as a bathing suit cover up! Just grab a hat, some sunglasses, and your beach bag and you’ll be looking stylish on your next day at the pool or beach!
The Perfect T isn’t the only LuLaRoe top that you can turn into a LuLaRoe tank top. The Classic T, with it’s round neckline, or the Christy T with it’s V-neck, would both be cute without sleeves. Pair with some shorts or a skirt and you have a super cute outfit. Give this a try and let me know what kind of results you get!
